Viscri Fortified Church
I took lots of new photos this weekend, but they are going to have to wait until I finish my Romania series. I haven’t for instance shown the most beautiful fortified church I visited yet. So here it is: Viscri Fortified Church (Biserica fortificată din Viscri). Like most of the others, it was built by the ethnic German Transylvanian Saxons. It was built in the 13th century, originally as a Roman Catholic church, but it became Lutheran following the Reformation. It is one of the fortified churches which have been listed as a UNESO World Heritage Site.
Prince Charles bought and restored some houses in the town of Viscri about 15 years ago as part of his initiative to promote sustainable tourism.

Built on top of a hill, with heavy fortification may be an evident of what happened in this region back in time's, Lars.
Good upwards view, contrast from green to blue sky, red roof tiles to white walls.

Hallo Lars,
Deze kerk herkende ik onmiddellijk. Ik heb er immers ook ooit een foto van getoond.
Werkelijk een fantastisch monument, een kerk die er uit ziet als een versterkte vesting.
Mooi genomen met de schaduw op het gras onderaan en met de bladeren als framing bovenaan.

Hej Lars,
Den här byn och kyrkan kommer jag väl ihåg. Det var en väldigt vacker plats och jag har faktiskt lagt ut en bild härifrån. Det är svårt att tro att detta är en kyrka. Den är minst sagt väldigt väl 'fortified'. Från den här långa vinkeln är den mycket imponerande, och det var fint att du fick med några trädgrenar som inramning. Härliga, mustiga färger.

Hello Lars, When I have new series of photos, I just abandon the old ones. I still have hundreds of London pictures, but they are already in the archive.
This fortified church looking like a castle is maybe the most impressive. I think I was there too but maybe had no time to show photos on TE.

Yes, it looks more like a fortress than a church. I found out these were fortified against Ottoman and Tartar raids.

Hi Lars,
Beautiful presentation, I like the style of the tower which makes a repeated motif here. The weather was stunning which makes a clear difference. Wll thought through composition, it was worth to take few steps back as you did for a better perspective and to include the tree branches on top.
Excellent work!
It is a great feeling I suppose to have so many new photos and making hard decisions about which photos to show first but I suppose a new country has always some sort of preference to enrich the gallery and make it more international.

I did visit one fortified church from Brasov by catching local buses to & from Prejmer fortified church. The only guesthouse was closed and there were no restaurants, so I abandoned any plans for an overnight stay and headed back to Brasov after the obligatory photos. Tfs. This one looks similar. A nice drone shot of Prejmer I found on internet.

Hi Lars,
Again a wonderful view of a massive old building. It certainly looks more like a fortification than a church. Natural white walls are impressive and upwards angle gives strength to the composition.

I am surprised by these wonderful photos of Romania, which is showing us places unpublished for me, the trip that I made was limited to the main cities and Orthodox monasteries, these lesser known places are fantastic and I would like to make this trip.
These fortified churches are wonderful and this one is spectacular.
Very effective color, which highlights the details of the image.
A good management, both of the luminosity, and of the sharpness.

This is a beautiful building, especially the towers which contrast with the white walls. The blue sky and green grass add to the attractiveness. The colours and sharpness are excellent.
