No these certainly not soft . In fact they are very sharp. They are Castania sativa the spanish chestnut , better known in the gourmet world as a Marrons. the picture is clear and sharp enough the problem is with the view. With there being a gap in the middle your eyes go straight through to the out of focus trees beyond, better to have shot at a slight sideways angle to bring the 2 seed cases closer to gether.
