Photographer's Note

This one is an 'oldie', but still I would like to share it with you.

At the opposite hill of the castle you find this little chapel. We have not find information about it.

The castle of Porto de Mos is one of a kind and entirely unique in Portugal. It was damaged badly during the 1755 earthquake that also destroyed a large part of medieval Lisbon.

See here the castle bij night.

The castle has been partly recovered and is much noticeable by its slated emerald green towers.

You will find references to the Gothic and renaissance.
Originally the castle grounds held an Roman Look out post on which the Moors build the castle of Porto de Mos. The castle was won from the Moors during the Portuguese reconquest. It was given to D. Fuas Roupinho who was the first mayor of Porto de Mos.

The castle proofs partly the importance of Porto do Mos in medieval Portugal and in the 15th century The king D. Dinis presented Porto de Mos to his wife Queen Isabel.
