Photographer's Note

Hi TE friends

Again, one picture of my favourite city !
Here, you can see the famous Rabelo boat

The boat is a vessel rabelo Portuguese, typical of the Douro River that has traditionally carried the pipes of Port Alto Douro, where the vineyards are located, to Vila Nova de Gaia - Porto, where wine was stored and later sold.
Being a mountain river boat, the keel and Rabelo is no flat bottom, with a length between 19 and 23 meters and 4.5 meters wide. The construction of overlapping planks, cracked board is Nordic, compared to the Mediterranean.

With a square sail, the rabelo was usually handled by six or seven men. As for the mast, the first used only one, while the latter also wore a bow to the mast. For government, uses an oar over the stern - the getaway. When necessary, the boats were towed from the tow-paths by men or yoke of oxen.
