This is the main roundabout in Boavista Avenue. In Background we can see the Casa da Música
Rotunda da Boavista is the nickname for the Praça de Mouzinho de Albuquerque, a large roundabout in Porto, Portugal. Its official name honours Joaquim Augusto Mouzinho de Albuquerque, a Portuguese soldier that fought in Africa during XIX century.
A column in the middle of the square (Monumento aos Heróis da Guerra Peninsular) commemorates the victory of the Portuguese against the French troops that occupied Portugal during the Peninsular War (1808-1814). The column, slowly built between 1909 and 1951, is a project by celebrated Porto architect José Marques da Silva and sculptor Alves de Sousa.
The Casa da Música, Porto's modern opera house, is located in the Rotunda da Boavista.
The Rotunda da Boavista has 31416 m² of area and there are eight streets reaching this roundabout:
• Avenida da Boavista
• Rua de Caldas Xavier
• Rua da Meditação
• Rua de Júlio Dinis
• Rua da Boavista
• Rua de Nossa Senhora de Fátima
• Avenida de França
• Rua de Cinco de Outubro
Casa da Música is a major concert hall space in Porto, Portugal which houses the cultural institution of the same name with its three orchestras Orquestra Nacional do Porto, Orquestra Barroca and Remix Ensemble. It was designed by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas with Office for Metropolitan Architecture and Arup-AFA, and was built as part of Porto's project for European Culture Capital in 2001 but was only finished in the first half of 2005 and immediately became an icon in the city. The Building engineers were Arup - London together with Afassociados, Oporto.
Although the opening day concert took place on the April 14 with Clã and Lou Reed, the building was inaugurated on April 15, 2005 by the Portuguese president. The Prime-minister and many other notable politicians and Porto society were present for the concert by the Orquestra Nacional do Porto.

Back from holidays? Beautiful photo of Porto, Less known place. I do not see any rotunda here (there is someting behind the trees, but it doesn't look circular), but the monument is very nice. beautiful vegetations.

Bonjour, mon ami Aires,
Napoléon l’avoua à Sainte-Hélène : « cette malheureuse guerre d’Espagne a été une véritable plaie, la cause première des malheurs de la France ». !
Comme quoi les guerres ont toujours été désastreuses.
Très belle prise de vue de cet édifice imposant.

Generally vertical structures are taken by photographers in portrait posture, but you have taken it in landscape nicely. Empty space filled by trees & leafs beautifully. Nice photo. Congratulations.

Olà Aires,
An excellent vegetal framing give a here a great depht to the image. Colors and especially contrasts very well collected under this sky with clouds. The two peoples give an interesting idea of the sa-cale of the edifice.

The trees frame the column very well, the angular leaves emphasize the pointed wings of the statue at the top. All very sharp and clean.

uma rotatória (como é conhecida em minha região, mas tem nomes diferentes Brasil afora...) bem grande essa, com uma estátua imensa. Imagino a importância geográfica do local, já queliga importantes avenidas. Gostei das cores e qualidade, uma constante em suas fotos.

Aqui está como uma rotunda também pode ser um sítio bonito, pelo menos visto num dia como este e com a vegetação na sua força estival.
Bom, isto nem é bem uma rotunda "típica"; isto é um jardim circular, com a rua à volta.
A foto está bem feita, mas eu preferia que tivesses esperado que aqueles manos baixassem os braços.
