Photographer's Note

Something like 40 years ago I used to spend my holidays in Karpacz. Later I was there in 2013. So it was interesting to me to compare my memories with the present views. And it has changes so much that I could not recognize the places. The old building were destroyed and new ones built. It was a quiet place, now it is crowded, with a lot of commerce - food stalls, souvenirs. I looked at all this rather with horror. But the small lake near the dam has not changed so much. So it was a joy for me to see.

Karpacz (German: Krummhübel) is a spa town and ski resort and one of the most important centres for mountain hiking and skiing, including ski jumping. Karpacz is situated in the Karkonosze Mountains (German: Riesengebirge)

Karpacz is located at 480 to 885 metres (1,575–2,904 ft) above sea level. South of Karpacz on the border to the Czech Republic there is Mount Sněžka-Śnieżka (1,602 metres (5,256 ft)).
Between the years 1910 to 1915 under the flood control dam was built on Lomnica. It creates a small pond with artificial waterfall. In the early twentieth century in the lake you could bathe or swim after canoeing, winter and would turn into a skating rink. On the bank operated a restaurant and concert shell. Today, the top of the dam leads red hiking trail that leads to Grabowiec.
