Photographer's Note

Podhale is a region in southern Poland, which is the northernmost part of the Central Carpathians. Podhale Basin is separated Beskydy from Tatras.

Podhale is characterized by a predominance of agricultural use of the forest. Podhale is a great region for tourism. The beauty of the landscape and the proximity of the Tatra Mountains, Babia Góra, Pieniny and Gorce determine the development of tourism.

Podhale area was inhabited since the beginning of the twelfth century. Crossed elements for Wallachian, Russian, Polish, Hungarian, Slovak. The Podhale developed a separate type of pastoral culture of the Tatra highlands. In the second half of the nineteenth century there has been increased interest in scientific and artistic Podhale. In this area retains a rich, original folk culture: dialect, dress, manners associated with herding, literature, music, painting on glass, wooden architecture, rich ornamentation farmhouse, furniture and equipment.
