Hi Aleksander and welcome to TE. I love the texture of this shot, it looks almost like a painting or something. His eyes are very good and adds to the friendly yet strong facial expression. You captured what you explained in your note very well, with him looking tired and dirty and his posture shows just how hard it is. The dog is a strange addition to the shot, however it works. I love it.
Your english is fine, don't worry :o)

Very, very good portrait. Such a contrast between the clean and proper little dachshund and the dirty, tired man. Beautifully composed with rich colours. I would have cropped a little off the right hand side, leaving just a part of the wooden ladder, so as to balance the man and dog a little better within the frame of the picture.

This is a really great shot Aleksander. Very good composition, the dog is a nice little detail, the background adds to the story and the soot on the man's face further emphasizes his job. Very nice shot.

hello Alexander, nice shot
On y voit un peu de tristesse ou de lassitude devant cette condition humaine.
Beau cadrage et bonne luminosité très douce qui donne toute richesse à ces portraits.

Excellent shot Aleksander, the lighting and texture are perfect. It truly looks like a painting. The mans eyes are full of emotion.
I think we call it charcoal, (wood coal), in English.

Must be a hard job this bloke has. Great capture of two sets of soulful eyes looking in each their direction. His dirty hands are holding his little friend with such tenderness ;-) Anyone who knows me will know that I adore dachshunds, and this is a very beautiful one, indeed ;-))

Hello Aleksander, very nice picture : the subject, the story, the kindness coming out of theese sparkling blue eyes and the way he holds his friend with so much delicatesse and grace. There is an unusual grain on this picture, that I have not seen on other pictures in this site, sharp but yet velvety, did you use a special filter?

Quelle merveilleuse image!

A marvelous shot - I am amazed by all the good portrait pictures that come up on Trekearth - I just wish I could get the same natural look and lighting that you have achieved here.
This becomes my standard critique - it may have been better if you could leave some space above Pawel's head. It is better to shoot with extra space and then crop later than to try and add information in a picture which doesn't exist anymore because you were too close.
However, those eyes, the dog, the lighting, it is an excellent photo.

Aleksander, you have signed a superb photo, congratulations. The picture is sharp, expression is deep, and you can imagine what kind of a life this man is living. Have you ever watched Tarkovsky's movie "Stalker"? This man and his dog very much recalls me of this magnificient movie.

This photo is magnificent. It makes me think that he must have a wonderful friendship with this little dog. Dogs love unconditionally, worrying little about how dirty the miner is and always ready for a hug. To me it makes the picture because it makes it unique, capturing the spirit of the man; a man who behind his dirty face and tough job has a gentle soul. I hope you have printed this photo and display it. I love it and dream of ever capturing one like this. Congratulations!

Exceptional quality in this man's eyes, the color and the look directly into the camera, they are very expressive. You also have caught a wonderful sheen on the little dog's fur, and movement of his skin. In the background there is also great clarity of the wooden bunk, very rough and crude. In this I see a man working at hard labour, yet so incredibly gentle and kind at heart. I'm certain he is this way, from the photo you have presented here.

A WONDERFUL portrait Aleksander. Even though the man is working hard, in rough and harsh conditions, he has this calmness in his (immense) blue eyes.
All the dirt on his body (and under his fingernails - nice detail) and on the other side the cleanness of the dog (plus again, his glance) make a perfect match.
Well seen, well done.
If this is one of your first photographs, you made one hell of an entry! :)
cheers Sarah

Stunning eyes! This portrait is so natural and though your note is about hard work (we can see proofs of this in his hand and face darkened by the smog), one can see a very friendly face with great smile. There is tenderness also in this picture with the dog laying on the man's legs. On the whole a great & interesting feeling is provided by your shot. Thanks for sharing ;o)
P.S: on a technical point of vew, as it's been said, the exposure and lightning are perfect. So as the frame!

Excellant portrait and his eyes really do catch your attention.
That charcoal dust gets everywhere and it is ever so hard to get it washed away from the eyes, this has the effect of someone having put face make up on. I have also noticed that when you have a bath, the charcoal makes the water soft so that you don't have to use so much soap.

Hello Aleksander,
this is a wonderful bitter-sweet portrait. Bitter because of the conditions that people like your friend must work in and sweet because of the charm of this man and his dog. Both are handsome creatures and have kindness in their eyes. And those beautifuk bkue eyes, enough to melt any young girls heart I am sure.
best wishes

hello aleksander,
crisp capture!! the blue eyes is crystal clear.
i understand that Pawel is into wood charcoal business and that is understandable to see him all "messed-up" but having a friend for a break is a compensation from this hard work.

Hi Aleksander. It is a very touching shot full of tenderness and at the same lost dreams. Such a young man working in ungodly conditions- and probably for the rest of his life. Your photo shows us how hard it is for many to survive and how much they give up in order to get by. The darkened skin really accentuates the eyes and makes the young man appear even more vulnerable. Great work. Bravo Aleks. Pozdrawiam. Klaudio.
