Photographer's Note

One week ago I went with my husband to Plock for the second dose of the Covid vaccine. It is crazy to go 120 km from Warsaw but we treated it as an excursion and we were quite glad. Płock is a nice city, it was kind of the capital of Poland in 12 Century. Strange, there is almost no photo on TE.

As you have probably noticed, I am rather inactive on TE. I look at the photos, sometimes I write critiques, but I rarely show any photos. It is so frustrating when for hours nothing happens. But from time to time, something "inspires" me. It has happened just now. I saw Gert's nice series with the red wooden houses and suddenly, it came to my mind that we have also in Warsaw an area with wooden houses, and you will be probably surprised but in the centre of Warsaw - near the Polish parliament, well-known parks and the most important embassies.
I went there to take some photos.

Amidst the concrete jungle that Warsaw can so often appear to be, finding a community of wooden, Finnish houses close to the city centre come as a surprise to many, both locals and visitors. But that is exactly what Open Jazdów is.
Just a stone’s throw away from the Sejm (Poland’s parliament), the wooden houses were part of the reparations Finland was forced to provide to the former USSR following World War II. The Jazdów estate initially consisted of 90 houses, which were built for the employees of the Warsaw Reconstruction Office (Biuro Odbudowy Stolicy, BOS), whose task was to prepare large-scale post-war reconstruction projects. Over the years the settlement has become smaller, with the land on which they sit is worth a great deal, and subsequently leased by foreign governments for use as embassies, or repurposed. However, while it has shrunk, part of the Jazdów estate remains, with a total of 27 houses, of which only seven are inhabited by locals, the remaining 20 being occupied by various NGO’s and organisations with one goal in mind, conservative.
