Photographer's Note

As if one Auschwitz wasn't enough, the Nazis built 2 of them, which I never knew before. Auschwitz II–Birkenau is several times larger than the original which is behind the bg building. I really don't want to get into the conspiracy theories that the Holocaust or Shoah was a fabricated hoax. I saw more than enough evidence with my own eyes to see it was obviously (and sadly) true. An extremely depressing place to visit. To the right and behind me here were the cottages housing the prisoners. I might load a workshop of the only thing of beauty I saw in the entire camp complex. Oswiecim today is a town of 40,000 near the junction of the Vistula and Sola Rivers. It is around 50km west of Krakow.

There is a plaque beside the partial ruins of the camp which was bombed by the advancing Russians. Many of the prisoner cottages are still standing. The text reads

'For ever let this place be a cry of despair and a warning to humanity, where the Nazis murdered about one and a half million men, women, and children, mainly Jews from various countries of Europe. Auschwitz-Birkenau 1940 - 1945'
