Photographer's Note

During a visit to the beautiful island of Texel (the first one in the chain of Dutch islands in the North Sea), I paid a visit to its famous recovery centre for seals and seabirds. While enjoying the sun, my eye was catched by this sleeping beauty. I had never seen a seal at such a close range (the zoom-lens is set to 70mm for this shot). This specific "beauty" bore the name of Trudy, so I was told by one of the carers, and had been found, stranded, on the North Sea coast with a bad long infection. Now she had recovered and was waiting for re-introduction in her natural habitat. I like the darker "mask" around the eyes against the rest of the golden fur and the relaxed expression of well-being while enjoying a sunny siesta.
