Photographer's Note
Windmills are one of my favourite photography subjects, and from that point of view, I live in the right country:) So can't help it, here's another one, taken in the village of Kinderdijk, which name is Dutch for "Child's Dike". The legend of this name goes that during the Saint Elizabeth's flood of 1421, when the terrible storm had subsided, someone went on to the dike to see what could be saved. He saw a wooden cradle floating in the distance. There was no hope that anything could survive in it, but when it approached, he saw that there was a cat in the cradle trying to keep it in balance by jumping back and forth so that no water could come into it. When the cradle eventually came near the dike, he fished the cradle out and saw that there was a baby in it sleeping quiet and dry.
Because the boat looked kind of ancient, and the mill is of course quite aged as well (this one dates from 18C), I played with toning to give the picture some old-world flavour...

Hi Alexander,
I have seen many shots of wind mill but this one is different because of its b&w tone. I like your compo. The surrounding vigetation, the boat & your framework make it special. Well done & TFS.

Privet Alexander,
LOL that is 100% Dutch !
A close framing but the frame is well filled with typical elements and interest, I like the idea of ageing as well though personnally I prefer to have a sepia more loaded in red and yellow, but this is all matter of personal taste. Nice one.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Hi Alexander.
Excellent composition with the boat on the left-hand side and the winmill in the other. Furthermore, the B&W creates a lovely old atmosphere.

The mill and the boat together make an excellent composition. You timed and framed your shot well to get the prefect balance as well as giving the boat room to sail into the space. the conversion works well to with a muted toning.

Hello Alex,
This is a fine composition!
The big windmill is nicely balanced by the boat in this pin sharp capture...
I think the sepia tone is a good choice, also since there are such good contrast in the image!

Where is Don Quixote? ;) I know, I know, it is not the same country at all. But I can't help it! Windmills are always associated with that crazy knight! ;)
What a beautiful legend! Again: I know, I know, I am emotionaly crap! ;) But still, there is supposedly true stories where animals have helped their human friends.
I don't know if you know it, but I'm not a big fan of sepia. I accept it though when there is meaning to use it. I have to agree with George about your 'sublime' conversion. I have to bow to your skills with conversion techniques. Sadly enough, Netherlands are too far for you to teach me. But, let me applaud to you!

Hi Alexander,
Well composed, resembling a vintage postcard. You demonstrate both your artistic and technical skills very well here, with this sepia toned scene. The boat perfectly balances the mill, providing dynamism, and the clarity of detail is impressive. I like this low angle POV with the large proportion of sky. Very effective. Its a keeper...later.

I remember commenting on this shortly before it vanished the first time you tried to post it. Not sure what happened there.
It's a typically, almost stereotypically Dutch scene. That's not a bad thing at all, and I like the sense of nostalgia you've conjured up here.
You composed it well, with the boat working with the windmill to create a well balanced image. I do wish that there was a bit more of a gap between them though.
Good work.
Cheers,
Ben

Hi Alexander,
Well framed shot with nostalgic feeling. I'm not an expert on Dutch boats, but it looks like it's not that modern either. Good choice on toning.

Hello Alexander!
Very nice picture with many good details.....
I like your point of view very much and the
sharpness is really great. You gave the windmill
the exactly right positioning and caught the
boat in the right moment.Nice idea to show some
bushes in the foreground. The windmill makes a
good contrast to teh white sky, because you can
recognize every little detail very well. The
frame is simple but nice and matches to the
picture very well.
Great composition and thanks for sharing,
Jonas

Hola:
Bonita fotografía con muy buena composición y luminosidad. La falta de color la hace una toma mucho mas romántica.
Un saludo desde España:
