Photographer's Note
How flat is my country?
Look at what I saw this afternoon on a trip around another "island", Zuid-Beveland...
I'll add this picture to my new theme "Where I live, Zeeland", so you'll have an idea about the Delta of Rine-Scheldt / Rijn-Schelde / Rhin/Escaut. These islands between Antwerpen/Anvers, Belgium and Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Excellent Viviane ! J'ai failli faire une photo similaire hier, mais avec nettement moins d'arbres... La règle des tiers est parfaitement respectée et la composition superbe. Bravo !

Excellent shot, Viviane. The repition of the trees is very nice. I like the way you kept the sky uncropped and the ground so dark. I made this gray day a more more happy.

Great catch of these lined trees which to me make the shot, clouds and sky colors are pretty too. well done!

Vous avez choisi l'effet silhouette par un contre jour. Les arbres alignés me rappellent les bords du canal de l'Ourcq en France.
Cette fois ci je ne touche pas à l'image afin de respecter le cachet local !

Hi Vivienne. Yes, the horizon of my lake photo is tilted, and I didn't even notice! Ugh!
How flat is Zeeland? Very! And then they go find a place in the South Pacific full of mountains and call it New Zealand. Can't help wondering why - perhaps they just long for mountains?
Van Gough did some trees very like these. Perhaps because trees are the highest things around. They make nice long avenues. The sky and those trees are the composition. But...why not do this in the evening (or morning), with lovely colours on those clouds?
Should I come as a tourist to Zeeland?

Nice one Viviane! very typical view of Zeeland indeed. Too bad it's not really sharp, but anyhow very nice composition with the subtile silhouets of the trees and that great big sky above.

I think this is one of your most I would say "achieved" pictures, there's a deliberate will of putting an idea forward even before realizing a great to see pic. And both of them (idea+execution) are excellent IMHO.
Now for the idea, the "flatness", it's obvious to anybody : the thing that is really standing out is that looking at the pic that we wonder whether it's a natural flatness or
a human will as it looks that someone has taken a chainsaw and cut the poplars (???)edges straight as if they were joining an army.
The church's an essential feature as it breaks the ground linearity and leaves even more "flatness" to the trees.
About the execution, this is very good, though I know you prefer soft effect pics I'd add a bit of contrast through PS curves, also I think that cropping some 40 pix in the bottom of your pic would make it look more "aerial".
Flat doesn't mean heavy, does it?
Added a WS to let you see my own point of view.

Beautiful picture! Excelent composition with great details on sky and love the fact of the trees having almost identical height.

I really enjoy the obvious artful point of view here, Vivianne! Very strong composition and lovely shapes.

Excellent shot! J´aime bien comment tu utilises le 'space negatif' dans les photos.
Congratulations!

Great capture for "le plat pays qui est le tien". I would just have darkened the surface a tiny bit more and added some contrast/sharpness to the clouds. You may also want to try a long "panoramic" view with the soil, the trees and the clouds/sky with all occupying the same amount of space (perhaps a bit more for the sky though). Unfortunately, I am new to this site and I still don't know how to recognize if others do like workshops on their pics or not, or how to download a pic for workshop. :-/

Reminds me of a Monet...really lovely composition! The rule of thirds perfectly applied with the dark foreground...couldn't be better.
