In case of a new siege...

In 1572-73 my home city Haarlem was under siege by the Spanish Army in the Eighty Years' War (Tachtigjarige Oorlog, 1568-1648). Click on the link to read more about the Siege of Haarlem (Beleg van Haarlem).

Nowadays a new war has started, the Innocent Battle of the Windmills and in case of a new Siege of Haarlem, I picked out this mill in the centre of the city as Haarlem's main warrior.

The mill is called Molen de Adriaan and was built in 1779. In 1932 the mill burnt completely down. The mill couldn't be rebuilt after the fire because of lack of funds, but in 1999 they finally began rebuilding the mill and it was reopened on 23 April 2002, exactly 70 years after the fire.

So now de Adriaan is ready for being sent to the front and if necessary to defend my city against attacks from the enemy. ;-)
