Photographer's Note
The Oosterscheldt Storm Surge Barrier is made up of 65 prefabricated and prestressed-concrete piers, weighing 18,000 tons apiece, placed without piling on the seabed and equipped with 300- to 500-ton weighing steel sliding gates. The barrier extends 2.8 km across three channels formed by two work islands and a 128-ft-high dike.
The picture shows the first part from the barrier in the north, on the Hammen channel, between our island, Schouwen-Duiveland, including 16 piers/15 gates, and the first work eiland where the Visitor Center, called Neeltje Jans, has been built.
The second part on the Schaar channel, includes 17piers/16 gates, the last and most southern, the barrier on the Roompot channel, includes 32piers/31 gates.

Read on the WEB - Seven Wonders of Modern World:
As a tribute to the greatest civil engineering achievements of the 20th century, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has chosen the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.
The international wonders demonstrate modern society's ability to achieve unachievable feats, reach unreachable heights, and scorn the notion "it can't be done."
ASCE honored the following civil engineering marvels:
Channel Tunnel (England & France)
CN Tower (Toronto)
Empire State Building (New York)
Golden Gate Bridge (San Francisco)
Itaipu Dam (Brazil/Paraguay)
Netherlands North Sea Protection Works (Netherlands)
Panama Canal (Panama)

Bonjour Viviane. The thumbnail is catchy, because of the straight line going up on the left. The image shows a lot of atmosphere and is well framed, but, IMO, the subject would gain with less dark bottom and some sky cleaning. Of course, the storm barrier is not the main subject, but these blocks and the wind turbines against the light deserve to be a bit more in evidence. Nice shot, anyway. Wil try a ws about it.

Great job you did Vivianne,
O, ja ik kan in Het Nederlands. Goede foto maar vooral en ik denk dat dit ook wel eens wordt vergeten, bij sommigen op TE, een erg goede note. Met veel en goede informatie, met betrekking van de foto. Goed gedaan, bravo.

With the heavy atmosphere and low angle one can not very much see from the 6th Wonder.
But with your excellent note one can understand much more about the problems there would be without it, the problems during the building of it.
Thanks for sharing.

Une bonne image mystérieuse avec de jolis dégradés de gris.
La profondeur est très bonne a en voir les détails de ces éoliennes.
Bravo Viviane
