Photographer's Note
Amerigo Verspucci
Today it was the first day of SAIL Amsterdam 2005. I had been afraid I couldn't see this event, cause I already would have been in Denmark, but I postponed my journey, so I was able today to see the SAIL In Parade. This is the opening ceremony of this nautical event, when all the participating ships as well as a lot of small boats pass het Noordzeekanaal (North Sea Channel) from IJmuiden to Amsterdam.
The ship you can see here is the Amerigo Verspucci, which was the last ship that passed by.
It is an Italian ship, which is built in 1931 and has La Spezia as its home port. The length of the ship is 104,2m. It was really impressive to see this ship in the channel.
Along het Noordzeekanaal thousands of people were sitting and looking at the ships passing by. The first ship departed at 11.00 'o clock from the harbour of IJmuiden and the last ship arrived in Amsterdam at 18:00 'o clock.
I hope you like this picture!

Hi Lars,
Groet Rob

The tall ship looks very magestic and imposing next to the smaller craft. Was your intention to show as much of the actual event as you could, or just this ship? If the latter, It maybe would have been preferable to crop at the sides for a vertical format.

Very good picture Lars.
This event should be something to see.
Beautiful ship the Amerigo Vespucci, because his name, Amerigo (Americo) the American Continent was named.
Great colors and very good composition.

Hi Lars. That big boat sure dwarfs the others. You have done well keeping the shot free of any distractions that might pull the eye off the Amerigo Verspucci. Nice one Lars.

Hi Lars,
A very beautiful shot of this exciting parade. Looking at the crowd one can feel the excitement. I really like the way you keep the main ship in focus and nicely repeated by the smaller ones around it. Thanks for the informative note. Very Impressive!!! Regards.

Hej Lars

John.

Hi Lars,
Beautiful those big square rigged tall ships.
Nice capture of the event.
I think you should have cropped the left and bottom part to point more attention to the ship.
Thanks,
Hendrik

Hi Lars, Before opening this photo, I knew exactly where you were in taking this picture. Because I saw this one today as listed in your reference.
I like you PoV in taking this picture. I like the nice view of the big tall ship in this picture. The big crowd and the other ships make good size reference to this picture. Thanks for providing the exact measurement to this big ship. A well taken picture with nice contrast, clarity, and sharpness. Well done.

Goed werk.
Groeten uit Rotterdam, Bert.

Good shot from the festival with all the boats included, of course with the big sailer as the dominant detail. Fine shot to go with your top notes Lars.

Hey Lars, this is me catching up! I write a few critiques tonight, I can have a day off tomorrow when Im busy :P
As you may know I love the tall ships and woudl have loved to see them in Amsterdam. I think I woudl have prefered to see the ship in a less crowded environment, but as you were pressed for time, I think that its a good effort.
The photo is very crowded, and its interesting to see whats going on, like the people on the land in the bottom left of the photo. And the man in the yellow shirt bottom right. But can you find Wally? Do you have wheres wally Books in the Netherlands?
Great ship though, glad you caught it with some of the sails flying!

Hoi Lars,

It strange to see this giant boat in the middle of small ones, in this small channel. The scale seems to be unreal.
A great effect.

I love how these tall ships look when surrounded by small watercraft. It's a great parade on water with the tall ships like giant floats. The Amerigo Vespucci is a fine ship. Maybe it could be cropped at bottom or left a bit just to off center it slightly. Thought its central position does give it a better feel for the way the small ships flock around the tall ship. And the colors look great for this kind of capture.

Hej Lars,
What a funny and interesting event, that you present us in here, with that beautiful ship dominating the view. My first thought, when I saw this image, was precisely about the wally and than I saw your funny WS. I have loved it! You made an excellent shot from a distance, with this greenery in foreground, which allowed you to have a better perspective of the ship. Good work!

Not a very good view of the Vecpucci since she is to surrounded by small boats, but rather a nice taste of the ambiance of that first day of Sail 2005. At the time, I was on board Rara Avis looking at the parade (since our Captain did not want to take part to it...) but I did not take many shots at the time.
All the best,
Emmanuel

Hi Lars,
The small boats are framing well the large sailboat. The point of view is showing the details of the Amerigo Verspucci. The good luminosity is making the colors to stand out. Have a nice day.

Hello Lars,
I have no idea why missed this beautiful picture: Lot's of boats smaller than the Amerigo Verspucci sails ship, greeting her in port.
Many objects fill the pic. space in abundance of colors and fine visibilty upon.
Good afternoon,
