Photographer's Note

A souvenir of my boating days, I took this shot in the harbour of Delfzijl. The Krusenstern was one of the many windjqmmers participating in the Ail Delfzijl event. The weather was not of the best but it was dry (and ice cold). This is a scan of a colour photo. I scanned it at 600 dpi and used Adobe Photoshop to turn into a B&W picture. I used the light channel of labcolor. As the photo turned out a bit light I duplicated the background layer using 'multiply' to obtain this result. Cropped and resized to a square format.
The ship was built in 1926 in Bremerhaven and was baptised 'Padua'. It was the last 4-mast barque to sail the Chile trade route around the Horn. After WW II it was handed over to the Sovjet Union as war compensation, and the name changed to 'Krusenstern'. Its homeport is Kaliningrad.
