Photographer's Note
Bijelo Polje (a city in Montenegro) was within the Ottoman Empire until its liberation during the Balkan Wars (1912). Under Ottoman rule the city was known as Akovo. Bijelo Polje's Church of Saint Peter and Paul is the place where the famous UNESCO Miroslav's Gospel of Miroslav, brother of Serb ruler Stefan Nemanja was written.
