Photographer's Note

"Denzelt" and Marketplace, Echternach, Luxembourg.

I continue my posting of nightshots in Luxembourg with one of the places I really love: Echternach
I have nice memories because I went to high school there and hope you like Echternach too :)

The marketplace of Echternach is one of it's main tourist-sites. At the center of the picture you see the "Denzelt", built in 1444 in gothic style. It used to be a courthouse ("Dingstuhl") and is nowadays part of the townhall.

Echternach (5.200 inhabitants) is one of Luxembourgs oldest cities. The town built up around the monastry founded in 698 by St Willibrordus. The monastry was an artistically important center in the 11th century (Codex Aureus Epternacensis & Codex Aureus Escorialiensis). It was awarded township in 1236 as one of the first cities in Luxembourg.
