The roman cats are so famous to deserve also many websites, their history is interesting and they are by now one of the attractiveness of the city.
Famous places of Rome are populated from cats, but the main important place are the ruins of "Largo Torre Argentina".

Generally, old ladies, called "gattare" (cat lovers), take care of these abandoned felines. They feed the cats every day by themselves and with their own money. They can be seen in the mornings and evenings pushing around a cart with bowls of food for Rome's cats. Even restaurants sometimes place plates of pasta, on linen-clothed tables with a nice lit candle and bottle of chianti, in Rome's alleys for the cats to line up and feast.

One of the most famous of these cat lovers was the great Italian filmstar Anna Magnani. While working at Teatro Argentina which borders the ruins of Torre Argentina, Ms. Magnani would spend her breaks feeding her four legged friends. This film legend, famous for her heart-tugging performances, died in the 1960's.
