Every 5 of february is festa day for Catania, it is Santa Agata,the protector of the city, aniversary.
Devotee's wearing white suits are caring through the cities roads these huge candles, one guy told me that these candles symbolize the sins of the man that carries it, i dont really know if this is true. But this is only a part of the celebrations, through the main streets are passing charriots carrying reliques and offers of the devotee's. Celebrations go on for 5 days but the last one is when all these happens. It is said that the visitors number is about one million persons!St. Agata lived the second or third century D.C. and maybe it was just an impression but there is something pagan in the celebration, something i have already seen in other religius celebrations in Greece.

the photo is taken using the candle light, the street was dark with out illumination and there were a lot of smoke from the parafine candles, these gyus are having some rest before continue carrying their sins...
