Crucifix - Church of San Francesco - Nocera Umbra - (PG)
Tempera on wood; 320x257 cm. Umbrian painter of the second half of the 13th century
It probably comes from the ancient church of San Francesco extra moenia, destroyed between 1304 and 1319, the year in which the friars obtained permission to build a new convent within the walls. The presence of the figure of St. Francis at the foot of the cross would confirm this provenance.
The panel, of excellent technical level, testifies to the fortune collected in Umbria by the Crucifixion painted by Cimabue for the upper basilica of Assisi.

Hi Silvio,
Le cadrage serré met la croix en évidence. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails des la croix. La lumière fait ressortir les couleurs. Bonne soirée.

A fantastic crucifix in a beautiful shape (as far as I can see) after more than 700 years. The light management is perfect and the photo is very neatly cropped.

Hi Silvio,
I like the slightly curved posture of the body which contrasts well with more static front on views more typical of crucifixion scenes. Good sharpness and framing. Tfs!

Ciao Silvio,
the cross of St Francesco became quite popular in Poland after the community from Taize started their tours around the Europe. They were always bringing with them this type of cross.
