Church of San Flaviano - Montefiascone (VT)

The current church of San Flaviano, made up of two superimposed rooms, was begun in the 11th century to replace an older building. There is evidence of a Carolingian presbytery furniture thanks to some fragments of pluteus, transenna or ciborium found during the last restoration works. In 1032, in fact. the small church of Santa Maria, now ruined, was totally rebuilt and dedicated to the martyr Flaviano. A plaque, now walled up in the counter-façade, gives us news of the event and attributes the credit to the fervor of the people of Montefiascone and to the munificence of a certain Lando. The original building, remodeled in later times, presented particular architectural solutions
