Vinci (FI)
Leonardo da Vinci was born here on April 15, 1452. Leonardo's birthplace is in Anchiano, 3 km from Vinci. It is located on the slopes of Montalbano, a hilly massif rich in vineyards and olive groves and terraces supported by characteristic dry stone walls. The oldest part of Vinci has an almond-shaped plant, unusual in this area of Tuscany. Seen from above, it makes you think of a two-masted boat (where the two trees would be the tower of the Rocca dei Conti Guidi and the bell tower of the church of Santa Croce). The historic center of the Leonardian village is known, for this reason, also as "Castel della Nave". He conquered municipal autonomy from Cerreto Guidi in 1860.
