Borgo Cerreto

Village of Cerreto di Spoleto, Borgo Cerreto is an important and inevitable point of passage for those who want to reach, especially in the city of Norcia, Cascia, Preci, Sella and Sant'Anatolia Narco.
The town itself is situated on a hill directly overlooking Borgo Cerreto, at 557 m above sea level. The area of the city is about 75 sq km and has a morphological composition mainly mountainous.
The area is known as much of Valnerina for the richness of truffles.
Borgo Cerreto arose at Mt. 357 s. l. m., in sec. XV, at the confluence of the rivers Nera and Vigi, as a fortified trading village of Cerreto of the castle above, around some pre-existing religious buildings, formerly occupied by the Benedictines who had the monasteries of St. Paterniano and S. Low, the latter subsequently sold the Franciscans.

The town developed along the two main streets, one of the valley, parallel to the Black and the other coming down from Cerreto and headed by one of Cascia, the two streets intersecting at the center of the country and were closed at the ends by four doors, which were the opposite directions, one for each street that branched off from the country.

The viability of the modern highway Valnerina has cut the country in two, altering some of its original architectural structure, which remains quite readable, the walls that once encircled remains one of the four gates and a watchtower converted into bell for the church of St. Paterniano.
The country has recently seen a renewal of architecture, which affected much of the old town, was then a booming construction industry, even in recent times, which occupied the whole valley, without a master plan of manufacture.
