Photographer's Note
Holidays are for relaxing. But it depends how you want to relax. Others might want to stay in bed until lunchtime, but I had the most fabulous time this morning near Amelia wandering through these vineyards and marvelling as the early morning sun broke through the mists over the distant hills and in the valley below.
This was taken at 7 a.m. (my camera's time is still set to GMT) at our accommodation at Tenuta Pizzogallo, just about 5 Km south of Amelia and a place which we would thoroughly recommend to visitors to this area.
Shot in RAW and converted and edited in PSE9.

Ciao John
Ahh what a shot. It's a masterpiece of light, just look at thoze rays coming down from the sky. And then shining on...of all things...a vineyard. Bit early in the morning for sampling some of its produce but I hope you got the chance at some stage. We always joke about Silvio's shot (who is a real wine connoisseur): you can tell which have been taken before or after lunch depending on which way they tilt. The muted colours remind me of a painting and I like how you positioned the lane to the far left of the painting and have all that space to the vines in classic 2/3 to 1/3 framing. Great job, have a lovely Friday.
All the best
Lisa (PS: "portentous"...impressive. Let's see if Martin can outdo that one

Hello John - Another lovely shot taken 'at my time of day'! The light is illuminating the vine-leaves in such a way that they are alive with various shades of yellowy-green and I can almost feel the sunlight warming up the earth - gorgeous! The misty hillside with the sun's rays clearly visible is atmospheric and lovely. You have captured the essence of the early morning in an artistic and sensitive way. This is a shot full of life, well done you! best regards Rosemary

Hello John
love the mellow feel in this tantalising composition. A wonderful light and elegant beauty about the vines, one can almost see the colour and the taste of the wine in this super shot. Special!
Have a peaceful weekend - regards Brian.

Hello John ,
I thought that springtime and autumn were the best seasons to take pictures of vineyards . I ca see here , that splendid captures can be done in summertime . The early morning light , and the mist in the Bg create a gorgeous atmosphere . The composition is classical , but excellent .
Well done ;

Hi John,
My way of relaxing is like yours - I like to get up early in the morning and to see the area when it is still empty. Usually I am somewhere in town, not so much views of the country after sunrise. wonderful photo, I can tell what the others did - marvelous light. Colours, sharpness are great. And this ray and the mist ... Maybe I should go for a trip with professional, like yours in Menorka?
HAve a nice Sunday. We had in the night a heave storm in the night. It must have been just in my place, lighting and sound almost simultaneously.

This shot is almost biblical in feeling. The POV looking up the pathway creates a bit of mystery.
Cheers!
