Photographer's Note
On previous visits to the city the palazzo has always been closed. Not this time!
Never could a building have such a mixed architectural history. The east facade is the red brick of the Roman gate, Porta Pretoria, which is set between two medieval towers.Whilst the west facade is by Filippo Juvarra.
Whilst the museum in the building is not free, it is free to go around this wonderful staircase in the main entrance. Which is amongst the most beautiful in Europe.
It really is stunning. This picture is taken looking up from the landing half-way up.
