The Nera Valley is the valley of Nera River, which rises in the Sibillini Mountains in the Marches, Umbria through a mountainous area south-east, and then to Terni and from there flows into the River Tiber at Orte.
The valley is characterized by its mountainous terrain, narrow and winding, is divided between the province of Terni, Perugia and Macerata.
Among the major centers Ferentillo have lived and Scheggino, while the valley is within easy reach Norcia, Cascia, Spoleto.
Normally, however, the term "Valnerina"means, even by an administrative point of view, the set of common gravitating around the upper valley of the Black and falling in the province of Perugia. However it is not uncommon to hear cover under that name as well as some municipalities in the province of Terni.
