Photographer's Note

A lot of people have already posted pictures of the Piano Grande on this site, but this one shows a different view. The Piano Grande is a giant round plateau (with a circumference of maybe 25km) at an elevation of about 1300m and surrounded by mountains. I visited on my bike as a day trip from Norcia. I think there was about a 1000m climb over 20 or so km, followed by a wonderful descent from the summit down into Piano Grande. Late spring/early summer is the best time to go because the entire plain is covered with wildflowers. Despite the scorching sun, I cycled up to Castelluccio for some of its famous lentil soup. Delicious, even on a late June afternoon!
