The Elegant City – Torino, la Città Elegante

Turin, especially after the 2006 Olympic Games, is definitley and undoubtedly a very elegant city. You can walk in the centre and watch full of monuments, great buildings, statues everywhere, hidden courtyards, old shops…

Here is piazza San Carlo, in the middle of via Roma, which leads from piazza Castello to the main railway station Porta Nuova. This great place is car-free and it is nice to walk here in any moment of the day. The square is all entoured by elegant buildings built in the XVII century and two twin churches, they all have, instead of the sidewalk, a gallery which lets the people walk repaired from the summer sun or from the rain. In the night, the square is populated by many photographers, violinists, improvised singer of the local tradition, solitary walkers, couples, tourists, torinesi preparing for the evening and the nigh; sometimes concerts are taken in one side of the square, as well as temporary exhibitions of photographs…

Look at the elegance of those buildings, and be captured by the elegance of that big lamp!
