Photographer's Note
Etruscan vasernThe few objects saved from the plundering of the Necropolis of Castel d'Asso are contained in a display case in the National Etruscan Museum of Viterbo, you can admire them in the WS. Among them is the beautiful vase posted in the main photo.rnrnThe rocky necropolis of Castel d’Asso - ViterbornrnThe identification of Castel d'Asso with the ancient Axia mentioned by Cicero in the Pro Caecina oration is now confirmed. The city already existed in the Archaic period, as evidenced by the discovery of some architectural terracotta dating back to 550-530 BC. C., which recall the similar and much better known specimens of slabs found in Acquarossa, flourished above all from the 4th century BC. C., as a minor center of the Tarquinian territory. In the III a. C. was subjected, like the whole area, to Roman rule, but, thanks to its position between the Via Clodia and the Via Cassia, it continued to enjoy a certain prosperity. In 87 BC it became part of the municipality of Tarquinia and from the middle of the first century. B.C. it was probably included in the municipality of Sorrina Nova.rnThe decline began from the early imperial age, until the site was abandoned in late antiquity, during the first barbarian invasions.rnBack to being inhabited again in the early Middle Ages, the castle was built in the twelfth century, still visible today on the tufaceous spur to the west of the plateau.rnIt was the first Etruscan rock necropolis to be explored and made known to the world in 1817 by the Viterbo archaeologist Francesco Orioli.rnUnfortunately it was also among the first to be plundered.

This is a beautiful piece of ancient pottery, and it's miraculously well kept. The colour of the wall suits this vase perfectly and you handled the light very well.

Hi Silvio,
Le cadrge serré met le vase en évidence. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails du vase Étrusque. la lumière donne un bon rendu aux couleurs de l'image. Bonne soirée.

It's so old!
The size shows the skill of the potters and the decoration is beautifully done.

It is a beautiful ancient vase and so well preserved. Good narrow presentation.
You write about Workshop, but it is not here.
You could edit the note afterwards to remove all these rn's that appear in the note.

Hello Silvio,
This antique vase must be priceless.
I see that they kept the vase looking as original as it is with the dark-stained still covering the vase.
Having said that ... I've a vase at home , quite similar to this one. I mean the 'shape'. I could say that it's makes from Etruscan rock :-)
Thanks for showing us this truly old vase which fortunately 'saved' from the plundering.
