Great Tomb
The rocky necropolis of Castel d’Asso
The Great Tomb, also known as the Queen's Tomb, is a fake dice, datable between the middle of the III and the middle of the II century BC, it is so called for its large proportions; it is famous for its three exceptional access doors; shows an externally sculpted tiled roof on the imposing compartment under the façade, which had the particularity of being tripartite and therefore having three access doors. On either side, steps led to the upper terrace.
The large lower chamber is accessed via an exceptionally long dromos, well over 20 meters high, and 10 meters high. Originally, at least 40 sarcophagi were to be found in the burial, today 14 remain inside, unfortunately uprooted and fragmented by vandalism. and by grave robbers. SEE WS

Very interesting ancient burial sites. So pity people had no respect for it. In the more recent times Russians who were "liberating" Poland from Nazi Germany were damaging old tombs as well, at least one story I heard from the guides to the Castle of Krasiczyn. Very sad story.

The bright illuminated vertical gap seen thru the narrow path is an essential component of the composition. The textured walls really sets off the size and credit to your pleasant exposure control.

Hi Silvio,
Although it is quite difficult to estimate the size, this passage looks very narrow and gives claustrophobic feeling. Texture of rocks is well visible on both sides. Interesting view on shady natural light.

The narrow gap between the rocks was perfect place in old age for a tomb, Silvio.

It immediately comes to mind that when you walk through the gorge here you risk that the stuck rock suddenly comes loose and falls on your head...
