Photographer's Note
Mariusz recently made a comment saying he is very surprised I have only posted two or three photos from Athens. There's a reason for that, which I'll get to on a future post.
That made me think...I only have 41 photos posted from my time in Italy. That is way too low. So I had to go looking and searching.
This is the famous Fountain of Four Rivers in the Piazza Navona, Rome. Yes, its been photographed many times, but I wanted to add my own special touch by capturing it during black hour, with a long shutter speed.
This is a 10 second long exposure using a tripod, yes I carried it around with me all over Italy, each day. It's well worth it in my opinion. Please don't read the exposure settings on the right, TE still can't get that correct. Its a 10 second exposure at F9
I hope you like the final product with the glowing aqua green water. Thanks for looking.

Hi Craig, your photo is truly exceptional, and this increases my regret of never having been to Rome. The choice of the night is a winner, and the quality is super, the 10 seconds and the tripod have given great results. Now it is really sad to see the fountain alone, without tourists in a city with so many activities in great crisis. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hi Craig
A good one to reboot Italy with. A beautiful slow night time photo resulting in silky smooth water in the fountain.

Hi Craig,
The long exposure gives a nice look to the water. This night shot puts the focus on the fountain and the buildings behind, with everything else in darkness, to give a dramatic effect.

this long exposue run very well for the fontain and the church; for the peoples too but they are in the dark part so we don't see them to much and that's good.

hello Craig, Indeed, there are a lot of pictures of Piazza Navona, my favourite square in Rome, but very few, if any, o the night view. fantastic colour of the water. Original capture.

Hello Craig,
This photo makes me recall how I had my very first meal in Italy at Piazza Navona, probably in this kind of darkness. But I don't remember (after 51 years) if the fountain had this green colour then. You captured a great atmosphere, but I'm surprised that the persons seen in the background weren't more blurred in 10 seconds.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Craig,
A great night shot of this famous square in Rome. The fountain and the greenish water stand out so well from the dark background, just as the façade of the church at right. Very good sharpness for the bright illuminations.

PS - we didn't take any blue hour photos in Wroclaw, after walking around the city all day, our tired legs wanted to go to our hotel before sunset

Hello Craig,
I've been on Piazza Navona at night but don't have a memory of the beautiful colour of the water in the fountains.
This is a stunning photo where the fountain water transcends all the rest of the square in beauty.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Craig,
Rome is a place that I loved and found that a few days was far too short to see places in different lights!
This is a very 'different' shot of the fountain, than would be appreciated in daylight! There is absolutely no way that this could be ignored at night!
The lights in the fountain, with your slow shutter speed, can be seen to create a lustrous, green glow.
I like how you have filled the f/g with the fountain details but there are just enough b/g details to create a sense of depth and place.
I am impressed that you carried your tripod around Rome, at night! Was your hotel close to the centre?
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Craig,
The subject is well framed. Using a tripod and a 10 seconds exposure is allowing me to see the details of the fountain of the Four Rivers in the Piazza Navona. It also has a special effect on the colors. Well done, have a nice day.

Hi Craig
It looks a little bit like a scaled down miniature version of the Trevi Fountain and also has a fraction of the crowds! Good sharpness in this superb nocturnal shot. Tfs!

Hi Craig,
Italy certainly deserves a lot of photos! I have not so many because several of my visits were in the predigital times or even without a camera at all.
This is a breath taking scene. The sky could be better if it was the blue hour but the green light coming from the fountain compensates very well for that. The resulting effect is so extraordinary!
Excellent capture!

Bonjour, cher Craig,
Un coup de maître à travers cette prise de vue nocturne.
Le bassin est mis en valeur d'une façon certaine.
J'aime l'ambiance générale qui se dégage de cette composition.
Amitiés.

Hi Craig
Indeed, I don't think I've ever seen this fountain photographed this way, at night and at such a long exposure. It looks otherworldly and the colour is beautiful. There is magic in the air, the kind of magic that makes me want to walk into the image.
Hope you and family are well and keeping safe!
Best wishes
Kasia
