Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
I really wanted to share this photograph and cheer you up, I hope!
This is the sunken boat fountain, opposite the Spanish Steps, the place from which I posted my previous photograph.
It was a very popular spot from which to be photographed and this small lady, elbowed her way to the front, dragging her obedient husband with her and, waving her arms, continued to issue instructions to everyone, the photographer and anyone else who might have been considering moving into her space.
We watched with amusement but you can see how successful she was!
I will add a photograph of just the fountain and of someone you may know as workshops!
Here is a little information about the Sunken Boat Fountain from Wikipedia - The 'Fountain of the Boat' is a fountain found at the foot of the Spanish Steps in Rome's Spanish Square. Pope Urban VIII commissioned Pietro Bernini in 1623 to build the fountain as part of a Papal project to erect a fountain in every major piazza in Rome.
The sculptural fountain is made into the shape of a half-sunken ship with water overflowing its sides into a small basin. Bernini built this fountain to be slightly below street level due to the low water pressure from the aqueduct. Water flows from seven points of fountain.
According to legend, as the River Tiber flooded in 1598, water carried a small boat into the Spanish Square. When the water receded, a boat was deposited in the centre of the square, and it was this event that inspired Bernini's creation.
I wish you all a happy (Easter) Sunday, despite the lock-in, Bev :-)

Normal days in Roma, Beverley, but not allowed anymore to jump into the water nor on the fontana. A bit late but Italian authorities got the idea tourists allow themselves a bit too far...
Wonderful the added WS's with a big smile from you, both of course.
Happy holiday, stay well,
Ike

Hi Bev,A beautiful post dedicated to the "Fontana della barcaccia". The Japanese invaded the forbidden spaces, and every now and then the fountain needs restoration due to the damage suffered by tourists. Three beautiful photos, especially the WS with you inside. If you want to go around Rome without tourists due to the virus, look on the link at the end of comment. Happy Easter to you and your family and thanks! Luciano. https://www.skylinewebcams.com/it/webcam/italia/lazio/roma.html

looks like this platform inside the fountain wasn't there when I visited the place. I guess it is wrong to stay so close of the boat. anyway I liked a lot of these tow images, excellent quality.
I worked a lot yesterday.
Happy Easter!

Hello Bev,
You have presented a lovely trio of pictures here! I must confess (as having never visited Rome) that I was not aware of this particular fountain - but how selfish that this couple should, out of all the crowds we see around this fountain, decide that they should be the only ones to have their photographs taken - and, in so doing, trespass on this major artwork. And I was sorry to read Luciano's comment that this magnificent fountain needs to undergo regular maintenance and repair on account of damage suffered by tourists.
Anyway, rant over. This is a lovely main shot which also shows just how crowded with tourists the place was. Of course I prefer your workshop picture of the fountain without those selfish tourists. And, naturally, pride of place must definitely go to the lovely photograph of the two love birds standing by the sunken boat - that's a very good photograph of the two of you and it's also very well composed - I wonder if the photographer was a TE member? :)
And, of course, an excellent note!
Fabulous!
Very Best Wishes at Eastertime!
John.

Hello Bev,
So far your series from Rome a couple of years ago indicate that you have forgotten treasures in our archives. That probably goes for most of us. This is an amusing photo, but unpleasant in a way. The man's shirt matches the water fairly well, which would be the couple's only excuse for occupying and potentially harming an iconic work of art. I always have a feeling that mass tourism breeds stupidity and bad behaviour. You snapped this well, and it tells us quite a lot about mass tourism, but both WS photos are "nicer", especially the one with you and your husband posing for an unknown photographer.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Beverley, you describe the happening so well, I can imagine the scene so well.
All three shots are very good, showing just how busy this part of Rome is.
Excellent sharp quality. The water looks extremely clean, I love how the light catches it, making lovely patterns.
Kind regards
Jean

Hello Beverley,
This fountain is well-known in the Netherlands for a sad reason. Dutch football hooligans damaged it a couple of years ago. I believe the football club raised the money to get the fountain repaired and luckily it was in perfect condition again for your visit. The boat even got a new and self-appointed captain, as your photo shows really well. Very well captured in a very nice and bright sunlight.

Hi Beverley
A funny photo and at the same time a somewhat disappointing finding about invasive tourism. This happened to me in Ilha Grande until I started taking pictures of the other's wife who did not want to leave the place and then they realized that they cannot monopolize a tourist spot. I liked the WS photos and especially appreciate a happy couple (you and your husband) and a beautiful BG.
Best wishes

Hello Bev, I like most, of course, the Workshop picture wPoor guy :). Why people must have photos with all objects they see in the background? You come to the well-known place and you see the invasion of the (Asian) tourists. And if you are in the group is even worse. Well composed and nice colours.
Stay safe

I am sure some people around the world are pleased there are no toursits in town, just wishing that the circumstances were different. She looks like bossy little lady, I feel sorry for her husband and co-travellers. Nice to have a bit of humour here sometimes.
Good clarity and colours in the photo

Hi Bev
fun photo for sure, and its great to see you and Len in the WS.
when I was here a few years ago, it was bad timing I guess. the Fountain was completely covered up for restoration purposes, we couldn't even see any of it, but of course the spanish steps were still there to be seen and experienced. The husband here looks like he could care less hahahaha, but that's what makes it so funny and worthy of a post. I think he'd rather be anywhere but THERE. great shots. We have two covid 19 pts on our unit now, i'm back to work in a few hours. Hope all is well. cheers
