This is a well preserve (though roofless) example of a Ten Pound subsidy tower house with a vaulted celler, hall above with two light windows, a two more storeys of bedrooms.
Whilst castle building was fading away in England & Wales after the 14thC, in Ireland and Scotland tower houses proliferated. This is a good example of the type. Although it stands alone now there may well have been a Bawn Wall around it. This could have been just a simple defensive wall not much larger than a garden wall, with a simple entrance & gun loops.
