Photographer's Note
I tried a number of ways to capture this ray of light under dark, looming clouds in Iceland. But I couldn't quite make it an interesting image. Partly because the otherwise landscape had to be underexposed to expose the light correctly.
So, I resorted to lighting up these straws of grass by a fill-flash in order to get a foreground. I don't quite know what to think about the result. So, all responses most welcome.

You did manage to capture the rays of the sun. I'm not an expert with this type of photo and have trouble finding a balance between the BG/FG. Did you try to take 2 photos, one to capture the bright BG, then the second to capture the FG darker subject, then combine the 2. Maybe a slightly better apture setting to keep the FG and BG in focus. I like the idea behind it, and sure that you will post this type of photo again, good luck, Regards Rodney

Wonderful composition, with the grass on the first plane! Without it perhaps the picture would be a little normal, so your decision was great.
