Photographer's Note
Here's a panoramic view of Nikeia village, that hangs right of the edge of the caldera. On the right part of the photo you can seen low in the heart of the volcanic valley, one of the 11 craters of the volcano of Nisyros. This particular one is Stefanos, the largest crater of Nisyros with a length of 330 metres and a width of 270 m.
Nikeia village is one of the most beautiful of Nisyros. Once it was a very lively village with more than 500 habitants (and not 3000 as I have erroneously written in one of my previous notes) but today only 48 people live there, the rest of them are immigrants, mostly in USA and Australia.
The square of the village is called "Porta" (means "door") and it has been officialy aclaimed as one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. If you want to see the square CHECK HERE.

Hi Hercules,
I see you are using the new 16-35 on the mkIII. Ever used the previous version? I'm still using it and find the corners very soft, but that was not really a surprise on the widest part, so wonder how the new version does in this ff format.
Although there is extreme blue on top which almost looks unreal, it's the contrast with the red and brown from the earth what makes it very pleasant to look at.
The village looks indeed very nice, but also isolated...
Have a great weekend, Henk

Hola, Hercules, m egusta mucho de la manera en que los azules del mar y del cielo se fusionan en un solo gradiente, contrastando y realzando la belleza arida de la isla y de la costa.
Un saludo,

Hey Hercules,
you really climbed hig to shot this picture! Well, it was worthwhile: a really impressive view. I like this high pov where the eyes can look around for miles. There is a good clarity in the air and a fine contrast between the intense blue sea/sky and the worm colours of the island.
Well done,
Donato

Kalispera Hercules.
Me gusta, me gusta.

Hello Hercules, Thank you for this spectacular view. I have seen many photographs of the caldera and many of the village - but none of the two together till now! All shown with great clarity and intense colours.

Hi Hercules,
A striking image of an impressive little village. The details blend in to the landscape nicely but the deep blue sky is what caught my attention first. Well managed light and TFS. Gerald

Hercules, this really shows you crater next to the village. The colors are alive and wonderfully saturated and the caldera looks pretty lifeless compared to the village area. Great capture.

Hi Hercules!
That's a very impressive, different, interesting and beautiful landscape!
The place where the village is looks so amazing and, from there, you can probably see both the crater and the bluest see, as we can see them in here, in your fine photograph!
TFS - Congratulations!
Warmest regards,
