Shipbuilding
It’s probably been a while after the last ship was build in Agia Kiriaki on the tip of the gorgeous Pelion peninsula. The wharf is mainly used as a maintenance wharf now and has an important function for the region. Agia Kiriaki is the port of Trikeri which is located 150 m higher up the mountain. The quality of the fish the local fishermen bring in is famous, and so are the restaurants where you can relish them.
The coastal road to Agia Kiriaki is great – it offers fine views of the rocky coast line, some small islands and the Pagasitic Gulf.
More Pelion shots are here
Shipbuilding is an Elvis Costello song from his “Punch the clock” album, released on Ryko/Demon in 1984. A live rendition of the song is here.
The song is not upbeat – and since the feeling behind this post surely is, the fit isn't perfect. But I couldn’t pass up the chance to use the title of one of my fav Elvis Costello tracks ;-)
My friends, this shot was captured almost 4 years ago and will be my last upload for some weeks. Its posting celebrates our return to Greece and Pelion in a few days. I wish y’all a fine start of the summer! And take care.
The PCS3 work flow: altered the format from landscape to portrait by cropping, altered the saturation, contrast, curves and levels for the whole pic and some elements separately, using different layers, enhanced the edges, USM-ed, added a frame and resized, sharpened the edges on a 60% transparent layer and did a gentle USM (1,1px, 18%) again on that layer.

Hi Bert,
Wonderfull pov ! Very well seen and captured. Unfortunately this is also one of the disappearing crafts. Those nice wooden boats are been replaced by fiberglass ones, which by far to not have the sprit, those wooden ones have.
TFS and best regards

Your photo catch my eye view by it's colors. But the POV is the best point of this photo. I like a lot the rich details all over the image.

Your POV and composition are great! There are many points of interest through out the shot with the ships in the foreground and the small Greek town in the background. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and DOF.

I once owned this camera, before I started with digital DSL camera (bypass note:-D)
Huup Holland, bedankt for this lovely and nice toned photo. I visited several times Pilion, but never been there. Obviously I missed a nice place at all.
Now about the quality of the photo. I think you have too much sharpness (Hard sharpness - you should avoid this and ex post correct it with photoshop or other programms in general) here or too low compressed, as it lacks a bit in clearness. As the camera is quite good in quality, I can only assume that the above mentioned points are the reason the my cognition of this weak points.
Anyway, a nice photo at all.
Take care, Leonidas

Excellent viewpoint showing this little yard, bay and nice Greek village in the background. Vertical format fits well. Saturation looks rather strong.

Dag Bert,

Hello Bert,
being in Pelion peninsula in 2003 i unluckly did not visit the towns in the south of Pelion; looking at your fine picture i must see, that that was a mistake..
Fine colors and a very good picture...
I wish you a great vacation in Afissos (there i had been several times, a wonderful destination) and hope to see lots of impressive pictures after it here on TE..
best regards Bernd

Hi Bert,
Groeten,

Hallo Bert,
Groet, Henk

Hi Bert
The sunny weather and deep turquoise sea definitely makes me want holidays especially as the weather's been pretty lousy here lately. I like how you've included the 2 boats and how all the houses are white with red rooves. Good thing you didn't include the sky.

Hello Bert,
A subtle charm with the tonality like photo seen in old magazines. Deep orange color on roofs is very impressive. The finishing with usm seems to make a bold image.
Have a nice day, Hisashi

Due that the summer is not arriving to Spain (such a crazy weather) this photo makes me dream with good temperatures and my beloved mediterranean sea. Extremely good DOF and a nice framing with this boats that I wouldnt mind to sail. Greetings Bert.

Hello Bert,
yes i know this shipyard in Agia Kiriaki,in Magnisia.Excellent perspective and a lot of levels compose the scene.A nice panoramic image of Agia Kiriaki in a brilliant day,the point of view leads us toward the buildings and the mountains in the background. There is a good contrast between the sea and the green color of the Mt. The light is enhancing the colors.
Have a nice weekend,Danos
PS Look a glance in a photo of mine of this region, here and generally in the travelogue Magnisia

Hi Bert,
Nice to see you again...
Great landscape, very well framed, the red roofs between the green grass and trees is a very interesting contrast... the sinuous bay is beautiful and your shot is too full of poetry! Thanks!

Hello Bert,
Once upon a time Greece was a marine leader in ship-building's - and they still have the "know-how-to-do". This is more like a ship repair place, but no matter: The picture shows a beautiful bay with little town along its coast, white houses with red roof-tiles and green slopes around.
Wish you a nice weekend,
Ike
