Photographer's Note

Iolkos – Holkos – Golos – Volos : The different names of my hometown since antiquity. According to the Mythology Iolkos was the native town of Jason, where he built his boat Argo, and after gathering the heroes of his time, he set out in search of the Golden Fleece to Kolchis (Aia), nowadays on the Georgian coast of the Black Sea. In his memory, my town has put up the bronze statue you can see in the photo in front of the entrance to our port. A great attempt was made a couple of years ago and they built a replica of the Argo, using the same pine from Mount Pilio, without any metal nails or other modern means, just the same way that Argo was made. In the WS I have included two photos. One of the modern replica, and one from the shipyard while it was being made. For more information look at:
