Photographer's Note
Monastiraki is one of my favorite places in Athens.
Under the Acropolis and with a view to Parthenonas
from the small streets and alleys,is a place full
of history. When I was walking in Monastiraki and
Plaka everything gives a sense to me that I was
going back in time. The ancient Greece lives together
with the contemporary and modern Greece. The Flea
Market, named giousouroum from the locals,is another
favorite and most interesting place. You can find
antiques,books,records and furnitures.These items have
their own history. When i saw this old grammophone,
I tried to think the way from it was brand new in
the past,to these days, looking for a new owner and
a new place,to play it's old wonderful music.
I like very much my visits and walks to Monastiraki
on sundays when Market everywhere is closed.Except in
yiousouroum.I buy rare vinyl albums from 60s,then take
my newspaper and drink my coffee with a view of
Parthenonas and Thisio. In the air plays music of
Manos Hadjidakis...

Hi Thomas, You have well captured the environment for treasure hunting. A well taken picture to show that one man’s trash is another man’s treasury here. Good color contrast, light reflections and good capture of the busy treasure hunters in the background.

Thomas,
You are really enjoying this great place yiousouroum. The antiques are looking great. The metallic part is shining very well and you grabbed it with good accuracy. Good colors and POV. Some people in the background are adding values to the antiques.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a great weekend.

Hi Thomas, I've been a few times in this place, so I really enjoy how you've captured the mood and the way objects that represent different aspects of life get finally mixed up in a market. Many objects to enjoy here, I like that suitcase on the bottom and the old telephone. And of course the gramophone that seems to be suctioning us into the scene. Congratulations, Daniel

I like this picture a lot, it looks like an interesting stall. The old gramphones are terrific, as is your choice of title. It just needs the little Jack Russell Terrier 'Nipper' to complete the HMV logo.
Have a nice weekend

Hi Thomas,
A new post from you and the title fits so well with this photo capture and composition. Nice notes and a splendid outdoor market of old fashioned but allways modern material. Excelent colors, light, precious details and fine sharpness with these wonderful pieces at low prices (?)
Great eye catch and a great composition in a clear picture and well done resulting composition. Congratulations and have a nice weekend.

The words in your note "paint" a wonderful picture of life in this area. This photo also continues the mood. We could look at it many times and find something new to enjoy in it. The light and sharpness are excellent.

Bonjour Thomas,
Best regards.
Daniel.

Hi Thomas,
What an excellent shot that you got in here, with the old grammophones dominating the image. The visual effect is quite impressive and all the stuff around it works very well for the whole composition. Indeed, a very interesting place. Excellent sharpness, colours and lighting. Very well done!

This captures a true junk shop feeling. The shining brass is great as it leaps out of the picture. Nice details and good exposure. An excellent shot.

Hi Thomas
Wonderfull subject on this picture. Light and contrast are great. I find the woman back the gramophone a little distracting. Maybe a close up on the objects would improve even more the composition.

I notice that yuo put a lot of things in your shots! This one is a good example indeed. And you are able to get a good composition out of a mess of things and people. I like the way you have hidden people, they are so small, but... the exist !

A very fine capture of this antique market. The lighting is superb and your careful framing and cropping have ensured high impact, particularly with the view of the gramophone. I very much like your interesting note. All the best.

Hi Thomas,
Well seen, his masters voice. I think this market is an Eldora do for photographers with a good eye for still life’s and funny attributes. I can see on your pictures that you have a good eye for that kind of situations.

Hi Thomas, this is a lovely and lively scene. I love the gleam and this great collection of different horns (the old phone counting for two, I see 7 of them). The helter-skelter pattern of all these different things is nicely structured by it. I know Monastiraki too and are also fond of it. Very well seen & done and thanx (again) for bringing back lovely memories.
Have a nice week,
Bert

Hello Thomas,
That is a really fine speciment of a record player! If it really is an original I'm most impressed...
Your image is so delightfully busy, displaying all sorts of goods and you depict this place very well!
Great colours and good details, I can study this for a while...

Hi Thomas,
I was looking at your gallery probably for the first time and am suitably impressed. I dont think I have across so many consistently good images in one single gallery. I am really spoilt for choice. This one particularly caught my eye because of wonderful gramaphone. I had seen one like this as a kid. Monastiraki sounds like a wonderful place to roam around.
Thanks for sharing

Hello Thomas,
Again, another delight in your earlier gallery! This one caught my eye because I own the exact same gramophone as that. I sometimes play Abbey Road or Revolver on it for the nostalgic feel. The conical sound projector looks very impressive from this front-on angle. The rich gold colour is commanding and dominant. I would adore some time to browse through this marketplace, the atmosphere portrayed here (and antique items) are both sensational.
