Photographer's Note
While other children and whole groups were having their portraits taken by a professional photographer, some of the little dancers spent their free time before the performance chatting or playing with anything available in the classroom that served as backstage.
The performance of traditional dances was prepared by the Cultural Association of Leros, "Artemis", and took place at the primary school of Ayia Marina.

They were clearly not doing maths, but this game probably also teaches them smart and logical thinking. They were perfectly dressed for a photo, especially with these contrasts of red and green, and acting totally spontaneously. It's an excellent daily life photo, colourful and energetic, and with a very nice light.

From experience, children will always enjoy using chalk and a board, and why not?

Of course we call this game "Noughts and Crosses" but it certainly seems to be concentrating the minds of these young dancers while the others are off having their official photographs taken. But I'll bet that the official photographs don't have quite the spontaneity or charm of this one!
You have caught this moment perfectly in a very fine photograph, full of life and, on account of the lovely soft light, glorious rich colours too. And, as always, exquisite details and clarity.

Hello Ourania, so also the boys took pasrt in this performance. Nice cap. The game is (or rather was before the computers) popular in Poland too, it is called the circle and the cross. They seem very interested in it. Lovely scene.

Great picture of these boys in their dancer’s outfit playing “Boter, Kaas en Eieren” in Dutch (butter, cheese and eggs) I don’t know why. The start-player can always win if he starts in the center.

Je vois que le tic tac toe existe dans toutes les parties du monde. Que de plaisir et en plus, cela ne coûte pas cher. On est loin des jeux vidéos et des téléphones intelligents. J'aime beaucoup les vêtements traditionnels des jeunes enfants.

What a sweet moment you have captured. Their red costumes certainly stand out and I love the details in the embroidery you have captured. The little man on the left is blurred. Purists would critique this, but I love it as it gives a reality to the photo and a sense of movement: since when do 9 year olds stand still? This is an international thing and I love seeing it. You have captured their vibrance and zest for life perfectly. I love it and it made me smile.

The more modern version of the game shown and those are playing, is the Japanese "Seduko".
Everyone was playing this one though.
Nice capture when all three young guys were in "action", each wearing the same traditional costume.
