Photographer's Note
Caldera clinging is a speciality on the island of Santorini, Greece, as many of the main towns and villages are built into the very edge of the volcano's caldera as seen here. This is the picturesque village of Oia which is perched at the very top of this amazing island.

Hello Brian,
The light has highlighted the buildings against the darker rocks which really makes this image pop from the page and prevents confusion. Love it - this place is still on my bucket list!
Kind Regards, Ann

Hello Brian,
The little town looks to have been carved into the hillside!
The light is just glorious, giving exceptional clarity to the houses, against the dark b/g.
I love how you have managed to photograph them with such a 3D effect.
Have a great day,
Bev :-)

Hello Brian,
The typical blue domed church makes an excellent focal point and offers a fine contrast with the paler tones of the domestic architecture. I like how the buildings rise in tiers up the hillside, drawing the viewer ever further into the scene towards that church. Perfectly exposed with superb colours and clarity.

Hello Brian
Good choice of the long lens to compress perspective and load the frame with architectural detail. It's many years since I was in Oia: back in 1980 there was hardly anyone about (mind you it was a Sunday morning), and there was still a lot of evidence of earthquake damage from 1956. It felt like a ghost town! Not any more I suspect!

Will

Hello Brian,
Another of your gems from Santorini, this time a wider view of Oia as the buildings, clinging onto the edge of the hillside above the caldera, gleam in the morning sunlight and stand out proudly against the darker hillside in the distance.
Beautiful light, fabulous colours, perfect exposure and stunning details and sharpness.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Brian,
How could one get tired of such a sight ? No matter how often this place has been photographed, it's always a delight to look at your well-managed landscape work. The architecture is so aesthetically pleasing and there is so much to gaze at. The compressed perspective has brought the buildings together and created a superb image. I like the juxtaposition of the white and ocre tones, and how the blue dome of the church tops the whole town. Perfect exposure and razor sharpness. A splendid capture and a fine work as always.
Regards,
Jean

Hello Brian,a three dimensional feel to this shot, with all the buildings built so closely together hugging the caldera.
Excellent point of view and depth of field.
The blue dome is a good focal point, set against the darker bg.
The light is very well managed, not easy with all those sparkling white houses.
It is a beautiful spot.
Regards Jean.

Hi Brian,
I recognise the church and belltower at the highest point in this image. I just finished loading my shot of the same buildings! The painted white houses resemble a cake with white icing sugar! Good sharpness and what an incredible view! The strong backlight has been well managed here. I like the contrast between yellow brown at right and pur white at left on the buildings in general. Tfs!

Hello Brian - I cannot remember seeing a scene like this one before. The 'head-on' composition shows the tumble of houses so well as they are built layer upon layer up the hillside. Really quite extraordinary. A super scene and one I could study for a very long time; there is just so much to absorb.
Warm regards

Hi, It must be difficult to climb up and down, living there, but what a view! Amazing place. interesting here the diagonal stripes - white, beige and white again, with blue dome dominating all. Spectacular view.
Have a nice day
