Photographer's Note
Commonly known as the green man, this statue stands at the entrance to the harbour of Gaios on the Greek island of Paxos.
It is of Georgios Anemoyiannis a Greek freedom fighter during the Greek War of Independence in 1821 who rowed out on his own with a lighted torch to set fire to the Turkish navy anchored at Nafpaktos. He was caught and burnt alive. He is known as Piroplitis or Citizen of Fire.

Hello Arnie,
A lovely picture, but maybe one advice, place the statue on 1/3 of the right side.
I know every photographer has other ideas, this makes the photography so wonderful

an interesting and attractive presentation of this monument that refers to the history of this place and is surely one of the island's landmarks. I appreciate the fact that you mention who the historical figure is and why he was honoured with this monument. i visited Gaios three weeks ago and don't remember to saw it.Never mind.
