Evangelis Zappas, a photo from Attiki, Attica

Photographer's Note

Evangelis Zappas was a visionary, but his will demonstrated the pragmatic side of his character. His will was drawn up in November of 1860, just a year after the First Olympia, and proved that he not only understood the need for trade and industrial exhibitions, but also expressed a comprehensive view regarding their protection and upgrading.
Childless and solitary, eccentric but cautious, Zappas was fully aware of the magnitude of his act. Clear-sighted and experienced, financially independent, discerning and patriotic, he may have had a better idea of the scope of the institution he was setting up than those who were actually involved in it. This was why, in his will, he took care to emphasize that not only his relatives, but every Greek, without exception, has the right to be on the alert regarding execution of the provisions of my present will and to oblige by law those who oppose them to make restitution and restore the said provisions.

Γνώση και έμπνευση σε ευρεία γωνία!
Κατά την διάρκεια της κατασκευής αλλά και με την αποπεράτωση του Ζαππείου οι εμπνευστές και δημιουργοί του θα είδαν απ’ αυτή τη γωνία, ότι και συ! Θα ένιωσαν δέος και ήξεραν ότι αυτό θα μεταδιδόταν σε πάρα πολλούς άλλους και μάλιστα για πολλά χρόνια!
Δεν γίνεται να μην είσαι υπερήφανος για αυτά που αφήνεις και ευγνώμονες όσοι τα παραλαμβάνουν.
Η έμπνευση λειτουργεί όπως η σκυτάλη, από γενιά σε γενιά! Δεν θα σταματήσει, όσο κι αν το θέλουν πολλοί. Γιατί υπάρχουν έστω και λίγοι που έχουν δύναμη στα χέρια, στο μυαλό μα πάνω απ’ όλα στη ψυχή!

Quite a fine graphic composition,
really original and very effective. The view of those columns is impressive and frame very well the statue.
I like how the green cypress contrasts with the white marble. Excellent DOF and clarity.

Geia sou Vasilis, congratulations on your new Intro photo, very nice. The symmetry here is wonderful and I like that tight vertical framing which emphasises the height and symmetry even more.
