Photographer's Note

Burg Eltz, a medieval castle in the hills a few kilometers from the Mosel River, is a mere 900 years old. Located deep in the forest, it's never been destroyed and it’s furnished pretty much as it was 500 years ago. It's still owned by a branch of the same family that lived there in the 12th century, 33 generations ago.

This is part of the interior courtyard, which is pretty narrow compared to the four stories of building walls around it. The only way to see the inside of the castle is by guided tour which starts in this courtyard. You see armor, weapons, tapestry, furniture, art, gold and silversmith's work, coins, medals, and jewelry collected over the past 800 years by the Eltz family ( The views of the castle from the outside are the most dramatic, as you can see on other TE photos.
