Photographer's Note
This scene was captured one early spring evening, on the west bank of the Rhine river, in the small town of Andernach, not far from Koblenz in Germany. I think it illustrates nicely the relations between society and an individual. As you see, the flock mentality is quite strong among these gulls, but there still is one bird who prefers not to share the railing with the other 16, but to sit proudly on the ground. His friends hold his place for him though, in case he changes his mind...
I have converted to sepia, because there wasn't much colour there anyway, and I thought sepia would fit these light conditions. On the other bank you can see the church tower of the village of Leutesdorf. This is also the first post from Andernach on TE. Although it cannot be seen here, it is a nice old town with several old monuments preserved.

Hi Alexandre,
reminds me of Pascal's shot. Good repetition of birds through the frame. The bird on the ground is priceless. What a rebel. Shows you that even birds have their own personalities and theres always one in a flock who goes against the flock mentality. Really nice catch.

provjet aljek,
let me tell you something - in full colour, this image would dissappear among many other similiar, but your wise decission to convert this image into sepia has resulted in a really good piece of artwork,
best wishes, j.

An "outsider" bird :)
But look, he has still selected place between his friends :) It was probably his choice to stay on the ground alone..
or he is too lazy to fly up :)) Ok enough psychologie, this is perfect picture Alexander, very intersting image and sepia choice was the right choice :)
Nice weekend for you

Nice choice of the sepia tones here: it looks like a painting. I like the array of birds standing out well against the golden river.
Well done!

The sepia works well here and adds to the calm and tranquility of the shot. The line of birds provides a strong diagonal. The water is perhaps a touch too bright. Nice work all the same.
Best wishes

Hi Alexander
This is a great shot and nicely done in the sepia. The scene is very calm and peaceful and well conveyed in the shot. I like the colour and luminousity of the water as it contrasts well, with the birds.

It's always funny when this happens; good job you didn't scare them away. I think turning this to sepia has made the most of the strong light/shade contrast; the brightness of the water works, yet I guess it would look over-exposed in colour.

Привет Александр. I had missed this one yesterday, it is a delightful observation of this flock of gulls sitting on the Rhine-side handrail. Nice framing and I think the sepia treatment works well to give a relaxing mood and also to tame down the brightness in the lefthand area a little. Good shot.

Do you guys, always have to do so much hustle and bustle about one lonely idiot - me?
I still should consider myself rather nice guy - it was only my picture being deleted yesterday, and not my account.
-----------------------
Sepia - most likely.
Note - an extraordinary piece of literature, smoothly fitted into the theme and merit of the picture.
Smart picture - what a relief..

I like this one Alexander, very sharp and clear progressive lightmanagement in this sepia to spot these birds in a pleasant way out towards the landscape fading in the mist at the horizont.
Well done

Oh! What a philosopher you are Mr. Pasternak! Then, let me be this time, just for this time at least, one with the flock and give my praise for this simple but enchanting photo. Sepia tones are actually a good choice. In that, I agree with Jerzy (bantonbuju) that in color, it would not have had the same effect. There is something very soothing in this photo, but I can't pinpoint exactly what it is. Maybe because if I was there, at that very spot, it would soothe my otherwise restless soul.
Birds are an interesting species. And they are pure gold for photographers.

Hi Alex
very old picture but worthy...
I would have removed the background in order to get only the seagulls which are the topic of the photo. Good idea to get a sepia tone.
Happy 2009 Year
