Marktkirche

This is Marktkirche Unser Lieben Frauen (Market Church of our Dear Lady). I showed this the other side of this church already last summer (https://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/Germany/East/Sachsen-Anhalt/Halle_(Saale)/photo1586726.htm). This church is located in Halle (Saale), the largest city (239,000 inhabitants) in the German state of Sachsen-Anhalt (Saale, which is the name of the river that flows through the city, is usually added to the name to distinguish the city from one with the same name in western Germany). The photo shows the eastside of the Marktkirche. It was built between 1529 and 1554. Several historic figures are connected to the church: church reformer Martin Luther preached here, composed Georg Friedrich Händel was baptised here and Johann Sebastian Bach inspected the organ, whereas his son was organist in the church.
