Photographer's Note
After the staircase, here's a scene from inside the Alte Pinakothek, Munchen's main museum for classic paintings.
---
PIETER PAUL RUBENS (1577-1640) is Antwerp's most famous baroque painter. He lived at a time when the Spanish rules invested heavily in Antwerp to make it a contrareformist stronghold against the recently independent northern Netherlands. Rubens was a prominent citizen and cultural ambassador of this movement.
In our hometown Antwerp you can visit Rubens' home and atelier and still find several great Rubens paintings. But that's just a small fraction of his work. Most of it is the world's top museums all over.
Being from Antwerp and being art lovers, (re)discovering those paintings from our hometown abroad is always a source of pride and joy.
---
THIS PAINTING shows a young art enthusiast from Antwerp in front of a Rubens masterpiece that really caught us by surprise.
This hellish tableau called "The Fall of the Damned", painted around 1621, is Rubens at his darkest. His depiction of demons and fallen angels here predicts later masterworks by Goya and even German expressionism.
It is a brilliant and most chaotic painting filled with horrible details.
See WORKSHOP for a detail from the painting.

Hi, neighbour!
A sumptuous artwork, but made into a valid photograph by the inclusion of the viewer in the foreground. At least Hell looks warm...

Hello Benny!
A good shot from the museum with the photographer. The workshop shows some horrible details indeed and remind me to Goya as you wrote and to Hieronymus Bosch.Very well seen and managed.

Hello Benny, that is a very impressive Rubens painting, the sheer size of it alone, never mind all the writhing figures.
Of course, it is the photographer standing in front of it that completes the scene.
Thanks for sharing, I had never seen this particular work before.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hallo Benny,
Vele groeten, Paul

Hello Benny,
I must confess that Rubens isn't among my favourites, but this is a rather spectacular painting. The photo gains from the vertical crop and the inclusion of the young art enthusiast who happened to be from your own city.

Gert

Hi Benny.
Your presentation is right on time with the current turmoil agenda that surrounds all souls around the globe. Very well taken, the object of interest in a double click moment. The motive of the painting itself is worth the attention, a warning to all humans, for a big danger in falling into the pot of the eternal fire if we don’t repent from sin now. TFS !!!

Hello Benny,
I really like this shot, which somehow reflects my current feels about this whole COVID situation. Also it made me remember this masterpiece of the Clash: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Op1HldyYiHs
Thank you for sharing this!
Best Wishes,

Hello Benny, Nice "picture from the exhibition" Impressive Runebs painting. But like Gert and you, I am not a fan of Rubens and in museums, seeing the huge canvases, I simply go to another hall. But here an excellent presentation, with fantastic colours.

Hello Benny,
It looks a serious fall into the depths of Hell!
I like how you have included a modern photographer to place your own stamp on this work of art!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Benny,
as I probably mentioned many times I spent 3-4 years in Munich and often on a weekend day I visited one of the pinakotheks or glyptothek.
Very busy painting and so full of interesting details.
Nice that you included the person who interacts with the art, a fellow photographer.
Very well done,
M

Hi Benny
What a beautiful thought evoking artwork with the great use of some catchy colours under available light. It certainly makes one stop and think as shown by the enthusiast who has become the victim of your keen eyes! Photography can be snap happy or it can be challenging, this is both of them, well done
Best regards
