Photographer's Note

The eastern region of Rheinland Pfalz close to the Rhine is called "Rheinhessen". This maybe confusing because the region does not belong to the neighbouring state of Hessen at all. The name is historically and keeps in mind, that it belonged to Hessen up to 1945.

Typical for the areas around the Rhine is a warm climate and therefore a lot of wine cultivation (in other areas of Germany it is too cold for that). Typical wines are mostly white wines, but also a few red ones which are not as good as the french ones, but nevertheless worth a try.
