The river Lippe is a side river of the Rhine. It marks the northern boundary of the Ruhrgebiet industrial agglomeration. On the one hand the Lippe is now an recreational area with a nature walkway along protected nature reserves. On the other hand it is the location of many coal power stations that demand the cooling water from this river.
